This series showcases those who have expanded their artistic palate, moving from still to motion, or motion to still.
Untitled (Starlings fly to roost) is one of Bowden’s first forays into video. She creates a calm feeling of expectation, and I sense that she has witnessed this scene many times before, waiting for the right day to film. The camera remains stationary, recording events as they unfold in front of it. Unable to shift my gaze I am devoid of context, adding a surreal element to the work. This eloquent, quiet film is a perfect fit with Bowden’s still images of nests.
