In Motion: The Photographer

The winner of the 2013 Red Dot Design Award, The Photographer is a sweet animated short by Lung Kai-Hsu about an elderly photographer who asks “What if I hadn’t done this?” and imagines a different life. In his darkroom, the protagonist rediscovers an old camera and flashes back to when he was young and first received it as a gift. He and his wife fought over it and it smashed on the floor, causing them to have a fight. The camera comes back to life and magically transports him through time to the moment of the fight. Using photography as a metaphor for preserving time, the film explores the decisive moments made in life if not in the viewfinder.
