In Motion: The Colourist

After Leo White left the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1945, he founded Whites Aviation, where he published periodicals on aviation and sold hand-colored photographs of his aerial views and landscapes. These photographs were wildly popular and decorated hundreds of New Zealand homes. Grace Rawson is one of the original colorists for White Aviation in the 1950s. In this short film by Greg Wood and Peter Alsop, Rawson hand-colors a photograph for the first time in 50 years while discussing this largely forgotten art form.
